The Ambitious Flea

DID YOU KNOW that the Flea can be conditioned to limit its expectations, and that the conditioning is hereditary? The trapped flea will jump no higher than the lid. Younger generations don’t even know WHY they jump no higher than the lid. Their conditioning outweighs critical thinking. We humans are not so different, and the conditioning is apparent in almost every aspect of our lives. Behavioural science is a fascinating topic, and both the world of Magic AND the markets often demonstrate it to us. In both bull and bear markets we are conditioned and instinctively tempted to act in a certain way, which often becomes self-fulfilling. What drives our behaviour? Why does the herd move so illogically? Why do we follow it when it does so? Is there such a thing as free will? As spoken by O’Brien in Orwell’s 1984: “We control life, Winston, at all its levels. You are imagining that there is something called human nature which will be outraged by what we do and will turn against us. But we create human nature. Men are infinitely malleable”. What do we take from this? Well … Think critically and consider contrarianism. Do not automatically follow the herd - whether in the stock market or society - and remember that the lid on our potential is often imaginary, a social construct designed to restrain us. Jump out of the flea circus. Your constraints are not real. Break free of that imaginary lid and realise your potential. 💫 #markets #stockmarket #behaviouralfinance #magic #society
