If you're planning an event and considering hiring a magician, it's important to know what to look for to ensure you get the best performer for your money. Here are eight things to consider when hiring a magician:
Experience: Look for a magician with several years of experience and a track record of successful performances.
Reviews and testimonials: Read reviews and testimonials from previous clients to get an idea of their previous experience.
Photos and Video footage of their performances to show you that they are experienced working magicians and not just a hobbyist
The price. Don't go for the cheapest. They will be cheap for a reason! You get what you pay for in Magic, and if you get a cheap magician you'll likely end up with an amateur who will add nothing to your event - or worse.
Make sure they have PLI. A professional magician will always have public liability insurance. Don't even think about employing them if they don't.
Check if they are member of a Magic Club. Whilst this doesn't mean they are automatically going to be good, they will have had to pass a certain level of competence to gain entry. The best of the magic clubs is the Magic Circle.
Ensure you get the right type of magician. A kids magician is vastly different from a corporate magician. Do your research and make sure you get someone perfect.
